Quoting Reuters, Trump made this statement, even though he received support from billionaire Elon Musk, one of the bosses of the US electric car manufacturer, Tesla, in the 2024 US Presidential Election.“Elon Musk supports me and he is my friend, but I am against everyone having electric cars.”
Trump said.Trump's statement was made as a result of the policies of his former rival in the US presidential election, Joe Biden, and the current US president, because he wants electric car sales in the US to reach 100%.
“If you want a hybrid car or a petrol car, we have more petrol, liquid gold, than any other country.
More than Saudi Arabia, more than Russia. I want to use what we have, I want to lower prices. the price and the cost," Trump said.
It is known that the US Government has issued regulations with a target that electric car sales can reach between 35%-65% of total new car sales by 2032.
However, this is not a mandate, but rather a kind of road map for manufacturers to follow the direction of tightening emissions.
The US government through the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) targets electric car sales to reach 67%, but this has been revised due to declining demand for electric vehicles in recent months.
Previously, in September 2023, Trump also said that Joe Biden's electric vehicle mandate was not government regulation, but rather government murder of workers and industry. In March 2024, Trump announced that he would impose 100% tariffs on vehicles produced in Mexico by Chinese companies.
f re-elected later this year. Then at the Republican National Convention in July, Trump also stated he would end electric vehicle incentives if elected president in November. "I will end the electric vehicle mandate on day one to save the US auto industry from total collapse, which is happening right now and save thousands of dollars per car."
Trump concluded. The tipster said guests attending the event included the CEOs of Venture Global and Cheniere Energy, as well as representatives from Chevron, Continental Resources, Exxon and Occidental Petroleum.
At the meeting, Trump also told the chief executives that the $1 billion given to him was a symbol of approval for Trump's determination to thwart affirmative action on climate change.
